We are facing a budget crisis in Oregon that is only getting worse with the federal government valuing tax cuts for the wealthy over programs that will help Oregonians. We will not accomplish our priorities if we don't first address our revenue problem. I'm eager to hear from the community on this important topic.

My record as a David Douglas School Board Member and now President-Elect of the Oregon School Boards Association demonstrates how I fight for all our kids - just like Hoa did. I fight for their right to feel safe in schools, schools that are fully funded. An investment in any part of education lifts up all of education.

• By adequately funding resources for students with disabilities,  even those high needs,  we set everyone up for lifetime success. Eliminating the Special Education (SPED) cap is one step towards better outcomes for everyone.

• Teaching conditions are learning conditions. We support our students, our communities, and our workforce when we support a fair contract for school staff.

• Pre-K is education and should be funded as such. Children that have access to early learning do better as they grow. 

Homelessness is a housing issue. Oregon has the dubious distinction of having the highest rate of unsheltered families with small children in the country. As a school board member of a Title 1 school, I see how housing insecurity impacts our students, their families, and our broader communities every day.

• Streamline our building code to remove barriers to building safe, affordable housing

• Explore financial mechanisms to spur housing production and help bridge gaps between design and construction. The Construction Loan Revolving Fund passed last year is one good idea.

• Rental assistance to help individuals avoid the number one reason for for-cause eviction.

• Caps on fees such as laundry fees, pet rent, and late-rent fees.

I am committed to setting achievable climate benchmarks and ensuring the community is involved in shaping solutions from the start, while ensuring that those policies don't put an undue burden on the least of us. The most important thing is to always tackle climate through an environmental justice and equity lens.

• Mitigate the impacts of climate change for all our communities, particularly those experiencing the greatest burdens.

• Advance our climate goals through a just transition to a green economy. This supports local energy independence and living wage jobs.

• Make polluters pay when climate disasters occur. They have reaped record profits while Oregonians pay the price. 

• I support a constitutional amendment to guarantee all Oregonians the right to a healthy and safe climate

We are experiencing a shocking overreach of the federal government in many ways. One year ago, it would have seemed unimaginable that armed, masked individuals could invade a school, a business, a bedroom in Gresham and take our neighbors without a warrant or even identifying themselves. 

• Protecting Oregon as a sanctuary state makes all of our communities safer.

• I will defend and expand privacy protections. Your sensitive data should not be for sale and should not be weaponized against you.

• Oregon’s vote-by-mail system is the gold standard for the country. I will defend voting rights and all civic pathways to participation.
